Stephanie's Nail Tip

Comment: Well, I was a very serious nail biter all my life, and my parents and I tried everything, self- manicures, polishing, and pampering that I could do myself, painting peppery icky stuff on them, putting band-aids (and even tape) on each finger, sheer willpower and monetary rewards from dad if I let them grow (none of which never worked, if I got nervous or stressed, in went my fingertips) - you name it, I/we tried it! Finally in my mid 20's I could stand it no longer and was becoming embarrassed when I entered the professional workplace, having to hide my ugly, bleeding cuticles and ragged fingertips out of shame. I decided to call a professional manicurist near my workplace and inquired if there was anything she could do to help me. I didn't think she could or that I could have tips or acrylics put on since there wasn't much, if any, free nail to adhere to. But she was a miracle worker, she managed to get acrylics on me, very very short at first, to let my natural nail grow, the acrylic so thick even I can't nibble through it. My nails did grow out, although they are weak (it runs in the family) so I have kept the acrylics on for that reason and because my self-esteem grew also, I no longer had to hide my hands! Five years later I still have beautiful nails like everybody else and am no longer a nail-biter, since the pride of having nice nails and the acrylic broke me of the bad habit. I make regular appointments and take better care of my nails and cuticles than I ever thought I would or could. For me, going to a professional made all the difference in the world, although perhaps not everyone can afford it. But for serious nail-biters who want to stop, I feel it is definately worth looking into. Thank you for letting me tell my story.
